Time: 3-4 hours depending on fitness level.
Distance: 6 km.
Cable car down: R210 (2021).
The India Venster trail starts at the lower cable car station. It is categorized as a Grade B hike, which requires some rock scrambling. There are a couple of sections with chains and steel staples and a narrow chimney to navigate, and several warning signs along the path.
This route offers the most breath-taking views of the city and Robben Island, Table Bay, Bloubergstrand, the Twelve Apostles, False Bay and the Cape Peninsula. It literally covers all sides of Table Mountain. The trail leads on to Fountain Ledge with has spectacular aerial views of Camps Bay.
It is a 830m climb to the top of Table Mountain. If time (and fitness) allows, one option is to descent via Platteklip Gorge instead of taking the cable car down. Platteklip Gorge will add an additional 2 hours to the route.
The views are inspiring to say the least!
