CHAPMAN'S PEAK

Peninsula splendour

Time: 3-5 hours depending on fitness level.

Distance: 5 km.

Elevation gain: 595 m starting from Noordhoek Beach.

This is a moderate hike up an iconic peak with magnificent vistas all the way to its prominent summit. It is one of the most rewarding hikes on the Cape Peninsula.

It's a steep and steady climb from Noordhoek Beach but you get treated to extraordinary views around every corner. It's also possible to start the trail from the Hout Bay side, which is easier and implies less elevation.

You get a close-up experience of the unique Fynbos Biome, which includes many medicinal plants that were used by indigenous people in South Africa.

The Cape Peninsula is also home to Sunbirds, Sugarbirds, a pair of Black Eagles (Verraux’s Eagle), Jackal Buzzard, White-necked Raven and many other species.

The views are spectacular the whole way up and down.
